A few things you may be wondering.
Who is the girls’ school for?
Girls with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences who need specialized instruction in a Torah environment. The full-day program serves grades 3–5. Contact our office to discuss your daughter’s needs.
What are language-based learning differences?
Language-based learning disabilities (LBLDs) can affect a student’s ability to read, understand language, write, and participate in classroom learning. They include:
- Dyslexia: difficulty reading words accurately and fluently.
- Language impairment: difficulty understanding vocabulary and expressing or understanding ideas through spoken and written language.
Students with LBLDs may also experience difficulties with attention and executive functioning, such as planning, organization, and managing tasks. These challenges can occur alongside LBLDs.
What is dyslexia?
Dyslexia is a learning disability that makes it difficult to read words accurately and fluently. It can also make spelling and connecting letters with speech sounds harder.
A person with dyslexia may read slowly, struggle to sound out unfamiliar words, or need extra effort to recognize words. Dyslexia does not reflect a person’s intelligence, and people with dyslexia can learn successfully with appropriate instruction. dyslexiaida.org
What does direct, explicit instruction look like?
The teacher explains and demonstrates a skill, then guides students through practice. Lessons follow a planned sequence, with feedback and review before new material is introduced.
How are limudei kodesh and general studies taught?
Specialized instruction is part of both. Kriah, tefillah, Chumash, and general studies are taught with attention to each talmidah’s language and learning needs.
How large are the learning groups?
Students learn in small groups and receive individual support. Grouping varies by subject and learning needs. Our office can explain the current class and instructional group sizes.
Does Binyan have a boys’ school?
Binyan does not currently operate a full-day boys’ school. Boys may receive support through our work with local schools or through connections to independent specialists. Contact us about current options.
How can my school work with Binyan?
Contact our office about school support or professional development. A short description of your students’ or teaching team’s needs will help us begin the conversation.
How can I support Binyan?
Make a gift through Binyan’s PayPal Giving Fund page, or contact our office about grants and other ways to give.
What grades are you accepting?
We are accepting girls going into 3rd grade.
